How to run your first heatmap scan
Run a Google Maps heatmap scan to visualize where a business ranks across a city.
Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Go to Local Visibility
Navigate to 'Local Visibility' in the left sidebar of your dashboard.
- 2
Select a location
Use the location selector at the top to choose which connected GBP location you want to scan.
- 3
Enter a keyword
Type the primary keyword you want to track (e.g. 'plumber near me', 'dentist London'). Choose a keyword your clients' customers actually search for.
- 4
Select grid size
Choose a grid size. 7Γ7 covers a city neighborhood. 9Γ9 covers a full city. 13Γ13 is a full market scan for large service areas.
- 5
Run the scan
Click 'Run Scan'. The scan will begin immediately. Depending on grid size it takes 30 seconds to 3 minutes to complete.
- 6
View the heatmap
When complete, the heatmap renders a color-coded grid. Green = top 3 ranking. Yellow = positions 4β10. Red = below position 10 or not ranking.
Tips
- Run scans for multiple keywords to get a full picture of a location's visibility.
- Save the scan result as a PDF report to share with clients directly.
- Compare before-and-after scans monthly to show clients measurable improvement.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Scan is stuck on 'Processing'
Large grid scans (13Γ13) take longer. Wait 5 minutes. If the scan is still stuck, cancel and retry.
Problem: All grid points show red
This is normal for new clients β it means they have poor Google Maps visibility. This is the problem Mapifyer helps you solve.
