Understanding ranking grids and color codes
Learn how to read a Mapifyer heatmap grid and interpret the ranking data for your clients.
Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Green cells (Rank 1β3)
Green means the business appears in the top 3 Google Maps results when a user searches from that geographic point. This is the 'map pack' β the most visible positions.
- 2
Yellow cells (Rank 4β10)
Yellow means the business appears but is not in the top 3. Users can still find it by scrolling, but click-through rates drop significantly below position 3.
- 3
Red cells (Rank 11+)
Red means the business does not appear in top results from that location. Customers searching from those areas cannot find the business on Google Maps.
- 4
Overall score
The average ranking score across all grid points gives you a single number to track over time. A score of 3.0 means the business averages position 3 β excellent. A score of 12+ means it is largely invisible.
Tips
- A business may rank green in its immediate neighborhood but red in surrounding areas β this shows the geographic coverage problem clearly.
- Use before/after heatmaps in client monthly reports to prove the value of your SEO work visually.
